Launch of the temporary exhibition catalogue

On April 24 at 6:30 PM, the Shoe Museum invites you to attend the presentation of the catalogue for the exhibition “Metamorphoses of Plastics: Reality and Multiple Approaches.”

Promoted by the Municipality of São João da Madeira, the Shoe Museum, and the Interuniversity Centre for the History of Science and Technology (CIUCHT-FCUL), this initiative brings together multiple perspectives on one of today’s most pressing issues, encouraging reflection and dialogue.

We would also like to remind you that the exhibition will remain open to the public until April 26, 2026, offering a unique opportunity to explore the many dimensions of this material.

The Metamorphoses of Plastics project brings together leading institutions such as NOVA University Lisbon and FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, highlighting the importance of collaboration between science, culture, and the community.

In this workshop, children and families are invited to create their own leather item, exploring simple hands-on leatherworking techniques with no sewing required. Through colors, shapes, and creative customization, each participant will bring a unique object to life to take home. At the end, you’ll take with you a leather item made by you! The exhibition showcases new materials and biomaterials, zero-waste strategies, emerging digital technologies such as 3D printing and advanced customization, as well as high value-added footwear products. Through prototypes and interactive experiences, visitors can explore how science and creativity are transforming the way we produce, use, and reuse products.
